ENA’s CEN Online Review Course
to Prepare Nurses for CEN Exam
Emergency nurses looking to become certified or preparing for e-certification now have a new and
engaging course to help them study.
ENA’s CEN Online Review provides the
learning tools and on-the-go access for
busy emergency department nurses to
become certified in emergency nursing.
Based on the 2016 test blueprint from
the Board of Certification for Emergency
Nursing, there are 12 interactive
modules with video and over 200 pages
of supplemental review material. The
topics are:
• Gastrointestinal emergencies
• Neurologic emergencies
• Shock
• Professional issues
• Psychosocial emergencies
• Medical emergencies and
communicable diseases
• Genitourinary, gynecological and
obstetrical emergencies
• Respiratory emergencies
• Orthopedic and wound emergencies
• Maxillofacial and ocular
emergencies
• Environmental and toxicological
emergencies
• Cardiovascular emergencies
Sample questions familiarize nurses
with the exam’s format and material.
Pre- and post-tutorial scoring shows
students what they have learned and
still need to learn, with scoring
segmented by content sections so that
personal learning needs are highlighted.
Nurses also can review individual
tutorial questions they answered
incorrectly.
Almost 32,000 nurses have earned
emergency nursing certification, and
ENA would like to see that number
grow. While BCEN develops and
oversees the exam, ENA has developed
this comprehensive, easy-to-use review
course to assist nurses with both the
knowledge and the test-taking
strategies to succeed.
A Richer Experience
The content experts and video
presenters are practicing certified
emergency nurses, experienced
instructors for the Illinois ENA CEN
review courses and members of ENA.
One such presenter, Vicki A. Bacidore,
DNP, RN, ACNP-BC, APRN, CEN, who has
worked in emergency nursing for 30
years and taught numerous courses,
describes ENA’s CEN Online Review as “a
richer study experience.”
Re-certification is required every four
years. And with nurses having busy
schedules, it’s important “to have the
content available to them on their own
time,” Bacidore said. “They can do it at
their own pace. If you’ve mastered
OB-G YN but you’re not quite sure about
cardiac, you can revisit that section over
and over again. It’s very customized to
the learner. It fits in with their work-life
balance.”
Also, it’s often difficult for nurses to get
time off to attend a classroom course.
ENA’s online review course is mobile-
friendly, making it possible for nurses to
study wherever and whenever their
schedules allow.
Becoming a certified emergency nurse
will help nurses and hospitals provide a
higher level of patient care. This is one
more way ENA is helping nurses
advance their careers.
